Our Commitment to Gender Equality
At Ipazia Production, gender equality is not a slogan or a box to tick. It is a foundational value, as essential to our work as artistic quality, intellectual honesty and creative courage. We believe in it not because we are asked to, but because we have seen what its absence costs.
What we stand for
- Equal dignity: every person deserves to be seen, heard and valued for who they are and what they contribute.
- Equal opportunity: spaces that are open to women and to everyone historically excluded from visibility and power, not only formally but structurally and culturally.
- Freedom of expression and self-determination: the right of each person to define themselves and tell their story in their own words.
- Active challenge to stereotypes: confronting the prejudices and cultural norms that still place women and others in a secondary position.
Equality begins at home
An organisation cannot credibly advocate for equality while reproducing inequality within itself. Ipazia Production is led by a woman, and our team is diverse in background, profession and nationality. We involve women as producers, directors, authors, performers and project managers at every level. We keep a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination and harassment, and we apply these principles to how we hire, how we work with artists and partners, and how we design and manage European projects (Erasmus+, Creative Europe, Horizon Europe, ESF+ and CERV), where gender equality is built in from design to evaluation, never added as an afterthought.
Art as a tool for change
Through theatre, cinema and satire, sometimes dramatic, sometimes ironic or provocative, we explore the condition of women, power dynamics and identity. Productions such as Svetlana, Nell’ardore della nostra camera, Io ed Elena and Asterisc (IL)LEGALE address gender-based violence, oppression, identity and LGBTQ+ rights. Alongside our stage work, we work with schools, young people and communities, where biases are first formed, to encourage dialogue and critical thinking. We understand equality as indivisible: the freedom of one group cannot be secured at the expense of another.
